IN THE BEGINNING
In 1978, Bob and Lavonne Humphreys, owning a Motorhome, Members of F.M.C.A. and the Lone Star Chapter, found that because of work schedules and distances, were unable to attend many Rallies. They felt that if there was a chapter centered in South Texas, they would be able to attend regularly.
Using the F.M.C.A. yearbook, Bob began a list of all F.M.C.A. members residing south of San Antonio. Over the next month he called each of the families on his list to discuss the formation of a new chapter. Another list was made of those who were interested.
On September 19, 1978 at Palo Alto RV Park in Rockport, Texas, twelve couples met and enthusiastically laid the groundwork for the Chapter. Two other couples were unable to attend but were interested in joining. At this meeting, a unanimous vote was taken to form a Chapter and that the name would be
“The South Texas Renegades”
Five officers were elected:
President Bob Humphreys
Secretary Elaine Teal
Treasurer Ron Teal
National Director Robbie Head
Site Chairman Slim Branum
From this modest beginning, THE SOUTH TEXAS RENEGADES has become one of the most active chapters in Texas, and we think….THE BEST!
